Buck’s father was a big St. Bernard. His mother was a shepherd. Buck was four years old and weighed one hundred and forty pounds. Buck lived in California on the Miller ranch. He was a big outdoor dog with a strong body and long, thick fur. He hunted with Judge Miller’s sons and ran freely over the ranch. Everyone loved him except one of Judge Miller’s workers.
