The Adventures of Pinocchio is a children’s classic. It is Italy’s one of the most read books. Carlo Lorenzini was born in Florence in 1820, of humble parents. He took the pseudonym of Collodi from the village of Collodi where his beloved mother was born. In 1881 Collodi was in urgent need of money, and his “Pinocchio” was born out of inspiration and necessity.
The characters of “Pinocchio” are vivid and remain with us for a long time. “Pinocchio” comprises of a web of metaphors about the conditions of man. It depicts class struggles, social injustice and also shows the contrast between the rich and poor. In 1940, Walt Disney adapted “Pinocchio”. Translations of this famous story have appeared in more than two hundred languages and dialects.
This story is about a wooden puppet who was brought to life by a Blue Fairy. The fairy in turn tells him that he can become a real boy if he proves himself worthy by learning, courage, kindness and honesty. Thus begins the puppet’s adventures to become a real boy which involves encounters with a host of unsavory character
