Shakespeare was born in 1564 and died in 1616 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. He died at the young age of 52 leaving many to wonder what other masterpieces he might have written had he lived longer. Shakespeare wrote 37 plays and 154 sonnets in his lifetime. He is seen as one of the world’s greatest dramatists. Shakespeare's plays remain highly popular today and are constantly studied, performed, and reinterpreted in diverse cultural and political contexts throughout the world.
